Was ist Iron ore?

Iron ore, auf Deutsch Eisen-Erz, ist ein natürlich vorkommender Rohstoff. Er ist hart, brüchig und in der Regel reich an Eisenoxyden, die rostfarben zu braun sind. Iron ore ist die zweithäufigste Elementmasse in der Erdkruste und das Grundmaterial zur Herstellung von Stahl.

Der Abbau von Iron ore

Das Iron ore wird in vielen Ländern auf der ganzen Welt abgebaut. Dafür werden oft offene Minen genutzt. Dabei handelt es sich um großflächige Gruben, in denen das Erz mit großen Maschinen abgebaut wird. Wichtige Standorte für den Abbau von Iron ore befinden sich z.B. in Australien, Brasilien und China.

Die Verwendung von Iron ore in der Stahlerzeugung

Die meisten Iron ore Reserven dienen zur Produktion von Stahl. Iron ore ist ein wesentlicher Teil des Herstellungsprozesses. Bei der Stahlherstellung wird das Erz in einem Hochofen erhitzt und zu Roheisen verarbeitet. Dies ist der erste und wichtigste Schritt in der Stahlproduktion.
