Einführung in das Tapping

Bei der Stahlproduktion gibt es viele Vorgänge, die wichtig sind. In diesem Beitrag befassen wir uns mit einem dieser Vorgänge: dem Tapping. Wenn Sie das Wort 'Tapping' hören, denken Sie vielleicht an das Tippen auf dem Handy oder das Antippen eines Glases. In der Stahlindustrie hat 'Tapping' jedoch eine völlig andere Bedeutung.

Definition von Tapping

Tapping beschreibt den Prozess, bei dem flüssiger Stahl aus einem Hochofen entnommen wird. Der Vorgang heißt Tapping, weil dabei tatsächlich ein "Hahn" geöffnet wird, durch den der flüssige Stahl ausfließt. Dies passiert natürlich nicht ohne Vorsichtsmaßnahmen, da der Stahl enorm heiß ist.

Warum ist Tapping in der Stahlproduktion wichtig?

Das Tapping ist ein entscheidender Schritt in der Eisen- und Stahlherstellung. Ohne diesen Prozess könnten wir den produzierten Stahl nicht weiterverarbeiten. Nach dem Tapping kühlt der Stahl in sogenannten Stranggießanlagen ab und erhärtet. Erst dann können wir ihn in verschiedene Formen bringen und für diverse Anwendungen nutzen.

Wie findet Tapping statt?

Das Tapping ist ein sorgsam kontrollierter Prozess. Zuerst bohren Arbeiter ein Loch in den Boden des Hochofens. Dann öffnen sie den Hahn und lassen den flüssigen Stahl abfließen. Dieser fließt in spezielle Wagen, die sogenannten Torpedowagen, die zum Transport des flüssigen Stahls dienen. Sobald der Wagen gefüllt ist, verschließen die Arbeiter den Hahn wieder. Dadurch kann der Stahl im Hochofen erneut schmelzen und für das nächste Tapping bereitstehen.
